What are the major risk factors for heart disease?

Risk factors for heart disease are conditions that increase your risk of developing a heart condition. Risk factors are either non-modifiable, which means they can't be changed, or modifiable, meaning you can take steps to change them.

Non-modifiable risk factors for heart disease include age, sex, family history and race. Modifiable risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, pre-diabetes, smoking, obesity, unhealthy diet and a lack of physical activity.
